Back to school season has arrived and so have early mornings, rushing to get ready, and long days! Everyone’s back to school routines are different and it’s important to find what works best for you and your family. This is an important time for children as it is often a period of adjustment, especially if it your little one’s first time away from home.
It is also a time of excitement, nerves, new daily routines, and new challenges. It can be full of different emotions and every child and family may experience it differently, but it’s important to remember to take it slow and learn what works best for you. To help get you started I’m sharing 5 of my back-to-school tips to get you organized and help make your school days a little smoother.
1. Create a schedule
Changing daily routines can be hard for some children to adjust to. Try sitting down with them and creating a schedule to walk them through what their days look like and make sure they are comfortable and feel confident in it. Post it up somewhere central and easy to access for them as well, to encourage them to keep track of their own schedule and build independence.
2. Talk about new changes and experiences
This may be a big and nerve racking change for some children, or it might be exciting and something they look forward to everyday – either way this is something to talk about! Encourage them to share their new experiences at school and how they feel about them. This will not only keep you in the loop but also help them articulate their feelings and help you understand how to help them.
3. Make your mornings easy
Say goodbye to peaceful morning bliss, or maybe you don’t have to. Try and prepare as much as you can the night before to ensure a smooth morning. Put out clothes, put together bags, and set aside lunches (or make it even easier and try Wholesome GO’s NEW prepared lunch box meals).
4. Ease into change
After a fun packed summer, ease into the change by slowly introducing new items and events into your child’s daily routine. This will allow them to adjust faster and easier and help them to not be overwhelmed.
5. Have fun
Lastly, make sure to have fun! While ensuring that homework is finished and chores are done, make sure to make some time for fun as well. Autumn has so much to offer and there are tons of ways to enjoy, so have fun!
Back to school is a big step, but I hope these tips help make it easier and enjoyable for your family. Wishing everyone a great back to school and a fantastic school year!
